ArmInfo. Coronavirus will certainly bring certain changes to the economic and program plans of the Armenian government. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo, member of the My Step parliamentary faction Hayk Gevorgyan.
"I don't think that these changes will take on a global character or scale, but I think there will be adjustments in the economic course. It's clear that it's not worth releasing everyone from tax obligations. However, certain sectors of the economy today need the assistance and support of the state. Not I can say in what volumes and how this support will be provided, but I can say for sure that this will happen, "he said. Among the areas most affected by the situation associated with the coronavirus, he noted passenger air travel, tourism, catering, production and sale of household goods.
Gevorgyan emphasized that it is too early to talk about the pace of economic difficulties at this stage. In his opinion, voicing today some deadlines for the alleged crisis is also incorrect, since this can only aggravate it. At the same time, the parliamentarian is convinced that at this stage of the crisis as such, there is only economic difficulties. And when they will develop into a crisis and whether it will grow at all is unknown. Commenting on the observed revaluation of the American dollar, Gevorgyan determined the process by the observed growth in demand for the American currency, most likely having a speculative nature. The parliamentarian in Armenia today does not see real economic factors contributing to a rise in the price of the dollar. At the same time, in his words, in 2019, economic activity in Armenia led to an excess of the dollar supply over demand. As a result, the Central Bank had to artificially restrain the revaluation of the drama.
"In this light, I don't see the need and in general sense to buy dollars, just as I don't see the need to buy toilet paper or, say, flour. Especially considering that tomorrow you will sell dollars cheaper than you bought them. The crisis is not accompanied by only a decrease in income, it is accompanied by a decrease in costs. As a result of lower demand, many goods in the world are getting cheaper. Accordingly, the outflow of dollars from Armenia is also falling in order to import a number of cheaper goods. It is necessary to understand and remember this, especially harshly now, "the parliamentarian summed up. According to the latest official figures, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Armenia has reached 78. The government introduced a state of emergency in the country from March 16 to April 14.
