On October 20 Preparliament member Alek Yenigomshyan was returning home in a car from the "100 years without regime" procession. A group of policemen, who introduced themselves as employees of the criminal investigation department, approached the car, took Yenigomshyan out of the car and left the visually challenged man on the streetway and went away. The passers-by helped Yenigomshyan to leave the streetway.

Naira Zohrabyan: There is no sector in Armenia where human rights are not breached

If there is at least one citizen in Armenia which trusts in independence of legal system, he should be involved in Guiness Book of Records, secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party parliamentary faction, Naira Zohrabyan, said in the parliament today. She also added that naturally many cases of human rights breach were mentioned in the report of Armenia's Ombudsman, as there is no sector in Armenia where human rights are not breached.

Visa registers acceleration of growth rates in the Armenian market. When replying to ArmInfo's question, Irina Kamkhadze, Regional Country Manager, Caucasus Countries at Visa, said on Tuesday that as of late Q2 2014 versus 2013 the Visa turnover in the trade network grew by 26%, which exceeds the indices of the previous years. The year-over-year growth in the number of Visa transactions made up 18%, which is also higher than over the previous years.

One of the Bank's most active Visa cardholders, Gayane Babayan, who was selected on a random basis - through drawing - won a vacation package to Malta for two persons. The campaign was announced for the holders of VTB Bank (Armenia)-issued Visa cards from 20 July to 30 September 2014. The goal of the campaign is to promote the noncash payments with Visa cards.

Armenia presents books on Armenian Genocide at Frankfurt Book Fair

Armenia participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 8-12. Armenian Deputy Minister of Culture Nerses Ter-Vardanyan said at today's briefing that the Armenian pavilion caused a great interest among the guests and participants. Armenia exhibited hundreds of books in both Armenian and foreign languages, including albums and books dedicated to the Armenian art and culture.

This year the Olympiad involved young participants from 22 countries: Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, China, Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Jordan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, UAE, UK, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA and Vietnam.

The awards ceremony was held in Beeline sales and service offices at North Avenue. Anna Hovhannisyan was recognized the winner of the contest. Her complex offer comrpised improvement of the application design, introduction of GPS system to the app, option of getting voice and SMS notifications, language change option, introduction of news and information sections, personal page and online phone order page. Anna Hovhannisyan got Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. The application of another participant, Avet Brutyan, for creation of the home page of the application and optimization of the subsections of the app was also highly assessed by the committee. Avet Brutyan got a honorary mention prize, Beeline "gold number".

Karine Danielyan: Tailing dumps in Armenia meet no standards

The expert points out that the tailing dumps are not properly isolated from the environment, particularly, from the subsoil water. "Consequently, we face contamination with heavy metals, degradation of ecosystems and biodiversity. This also seriously affects human health. No wonder people suffer from infertility and oncological diseases in the settlements adjacent to the deposits", she says.
