ArmInfo.More than 60 cultural and art figures from Armenia and Russia supported the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, urging to change measure of restraint against him.
The statement states in particular: ''We do not give legal assessments. We do not go into legal nuances. But we are Armenians, we have Armenian roots, and we are concerned about the moral and psychological situation in Armenia. We are concerned over destructive environment of anger and hostility.
We do not understand the inhuman desire to keep the second president of Armenia in the prison cell throughout the trial in the case of the overthrow of the constitutional order. They could not convince us that if he was free, he could escape justice if his guilt was proved.
We value Robert Kocharyan as a statesman. Many of us know him personally. We cannot follow the events indifferently. We believe that his current situation is unnatural and does not contribute to the positive image of Armenia, the improvement of the public atmosphere in the country.
We propose taking a step aimed at establishing solidarity, and in the name of the future. We ask you to change the measure of restraint against the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan''.
The statement in particular was signed by Alexander Akopov, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Russian Film and Television Producers; Match TV Director General Tina Kandelaki; film director Tigran Keosayan; Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia Today TV channel; TV presenter Sati Spivakova; musician Stas Namin; actor Dmitry Kharatyan; general director of the Mosfilm film concern Karen Shakhnazarov; poet Avet Barseghyan; singers Arame, Arman Hovhannisyan, Alla Levonyan, Arminka, Arsen Grigoryan, Hayko, Nune Yesayan and Razmik Amyan.
