ArmInfo. As in the current year, in 2020 Armenia will purchase new and modernized types of weapons in the framework of agreements and credit programs. Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan told journalists on November 4.
According to him, arms purchases will be carried out from different countries. The head of the defense department also informed that by the end of the year, or in January 2020, multifunctional Su-30SM fighters will be delivered to Armenia.
Speaking about the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, Tonoyan said that an increase in the territories occupied byits was not planned. To recall, earlier the base commander Nikolai Martynyuk reported to the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense that after the supply of new military equipment, the combat potential of the base will double. "Today, the base is being modernized in terms of weapons, material and technical support, as well as improving living conditions," Tonoyan informed.
As for the reform of the food supply of the army, if today it covers 38-40% of military units, then next year this figure is planned to be increased to 100%.
The Minister acknowledged that with the advent of the new government, the speed of reform in the defense system has increased significantly. , Tonoyan noted.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that defense spending in 2019 increased by 26%, amounting to 313.2 billion drams. AMD 2.1 billion of additional funds was directed to improving the conditions of combat duty on the military. In particular, the positions of the Armenian troops improved in five areas of the contact line, and the number of modern surveillance equipment at the front line increased by about 10%. According to the state budget for 2020, financing of the military industry in Armenia will be increased by 114%.
