ArmInfo. Azerbaijan entered the list of the largest importers of weapons. About this saying the data of the report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on the state of world arms exports.
According to the report, Azerbaijan is on 23rd place of the 40 largest importers of weapons in 2014-2018. At the same time, the largest suppliers of weapons to Azerbaijan are Russia, Israel and Turkey.
The top five importers of weapons in 2014-2018 included Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt, Australia and Algeria.
As ArmInfo wrote earlier, according to a published report, the USA, Russia, France, Germany and China are among the five largest arms exporters, which provided 75% of sales in 2014-2018. At the same time, the cumulative volume of the USA and Russia is 57%.
According to experts, the volume of international deliveries of the main types of conventional weapons in 2014-2018 increased by 7.8% compared with 2009-2013 by 23% compared with 2004-2008. It is noted that over the past five years, arms supplies to the Middle East have increased compared with 2009-2013, while arms supplies to other regions have decreased.
According to the report, the US share in the arms market increased by 6%, reaching 36%. More than half of US exports (52%) accounted for the Middle East.
Russia's share in the market in 2014-2018 by contrast, declined by 17% compared with 2009-2013. It is noted that this was partly due to the reduction of arms imports by India and Venezuela. Over the past five years, Russia has supplied weapons to 48 countries, 55% of the total volume fell on India, China and Algeria.
France and Germany increased exports in 2014-2018 by 43% and 13% respectively. The total exports of EU countries amounted to 27% of the world. China, which closes the top five exporters, increased sales by 2.7%. In the past five years, arms exports from Israel, South Korea and Turkey increased significantly (60%, 94% and 170%).
