ArmInfo. The visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to Brussels does not boil down to receiving and the amount of financial assistance provided by the European Union to Armenia. MP of the Armenian parliament from the My Step bloc, Mikayel Zolyan, expressed this opinion to ArmInfo.
"Similarly, the question was, of course, raised - during the period when the former authorities ruled the country. Of course, Armenia will receive quite significant financial assistance from the EU - 700 million euros. And this is important. But it is even more important to feel that you are a trustful partner of the EU. I am convinced that only such relationships based on common values will allow Armenia to count on EU assistance, which includes not only finances. The premier of Armenia is in Brussels with the goal of building relations of a similar level, "the parliamentarian said.
Since March 3, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been on a working visit to Brussels. After being elected Prime Minister, Pashinyan visited the EU capital for the second time. The agenda of the Armenian Prime Minister is the meeting of Head of the Council of Europe Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker , EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, as well as a speech in the commission on external relations of the European Parliament.
According to Zolyan, Prime Minister Pashinyan's first visit to Brussels was remembered by quite sincere discussions with the EU leadership. And today it has already become clear to all that the leadership of Armenia is exclusively open in all its actions, both in relations with the EU and in relations with other partner countries. At the same time, the MP is convinced that during Pashinyan's previous voyage to Brussels about the inadmissibility of inertia in the EU's relations with the new Armenia was perceived by the EU leadership correctly. And during this visit new opportunities will be created in the direction of deepening Armenia-EU cooperation.
"Our relations are developing successfully and today the prerequisites for their deepening are being created. With the overcoming of the constitutional and political crises in Armenia, with the formation of a new parliament and government, there are no more obstacles on this path. I am convinced that the new Armenian government's lack of intentions only to imitate reforms, as it was done in previous years, it will significantly increase our chances and prerequisites for expanding cooperation with the EU, " Zolyan concluded.
