ArmInfo. The US interest in the Karabakh settlement, in particular the telephone conversation between US National Security Advisor John Bolton and Ilham Aliyev, should be viewed in the context of the implementation of the Vienna agreements. MP of the National Assembly of Armenia from the bloc Hovhannes Igityan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
On January 29, US National Security Advisor during the telephone conversation, John Bolton discussed with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"This is an elementary continuation of the negotiations, that after the surge of hostilities in April 2016, it became simply impossible, not to mention the appearance of any conceptual proposals on the negotiating table. Actually, the OSCE Minsk Group also sends similar messages to the parties to the conflict, which was expressed in a recent statement by the co-chairs, "he stressed.
Igityan considers the telephone conversation of Bolton with the Azerbaijani President as a kind of continuation of the last statement of the co-chairs, once again stressing the impossibility of resolving the Karabakh conflict by force and the need to prepare societies for peace.
According to the parliamentarian, the appeals of the adviser to the President of the United States and the statements of the co-chairs are addressed exclusively to one side - Azerbaijan. Since it is Baku that periodically shows military activity, which is the main reason for the breakdown of the negotiation process.
Since 1992, the OSCE Minsk Group, represented by the co-chairs from Russia, the United States and France, has been involved in resolving the Karabakh conflict. At present, the settlement process is proceeding on the basis of the Madrid Principles put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group in 2007 and the Madrid Principles updated in 2009, among other things providing for the deployment of a peacekeeping force in the conflict zone.
