ArmInfo. A scheme for organizing contractual tennis matches, organized by immigrants from Armenia has been disclosed in Spain, euronews reports. According to the source, 15 people were arrested. During the searches, almost 170 thousand euros in cash, five expensive cars, credit cards, computers and a gun were seized. Dozens of bank accounts have been frozen. Among the suspects there are 28 professional tennis players. One of them is a participant in last year's US Open tournament.
In total, 83 people are involved in the case. Among them is the Spanish tennis player Mark Fornell-Mestres, who has already been removed from the competition. According to the investigation, it was he who was the link between the Armenian gang and the players it bribed. Since February 2017, the group has organized about 97 "contracts" at tournaments of the Futures and Challenger categories, earning millions of euros on them.
