ArmInfo. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will top the list of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Head of the RPA Faction Vahram Baghdasaryan said at today's press conference in Yerevan.
"Sargsyan is the RPA leader and there are no reasons preventing him from leading the party list during the elections," Baghdasaryan said, adding that the RPA does not object to pre-electoral cooperation with any force, however, the cooperation should be based on ideology. He noted that the RPA has big chances to win the parliamentary elections.
For his part, Head of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Faction Levon Zurabyan expressed confidence that the ANC list will be led by ANC leader, the first president of Armenia Levon Ter- Petrosyan. He added that Petrosyan did not run in the presidential elections because of his age, but this reason is not relevant in the case of parliamentary elections. He added that during the upcoming ANC congress Ter-Petrosyan will deliver a speech.
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Faction member Mikayel Melkumyan, in turn, said that the PAP will run in the elections as opposition. He thinks that the return of PAP ex-leader Gagik Tsarukyan will bring balance between the opposition and the ruling party during the elections. "Tsarukyan will lead our pre- electoral scheme, but it is for Tsarukyan to decide on the final formats and details," Melkumyan stressed.
To note, the parliamentary elections will be held on 2 April 2016. Most of the parliamentary forces are already stating willingness to cooperate with other forces and join pre-electoral blocs. Civil Contract, Bright Armenia and Republic Party (Hanrapetutyun) have already stated their intention to cooperate with each other during the elections.
