The press office of the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations has told ArmInfo, citing the road building service of South Ossetia that as many as 558 vehicles have gathered at the checkpoint, including 120 passenger cars, 13 minibuses, 5 buses and 420 trucks.
To note, the Upper Lars checkpoint was closed on Dec 4, at 10:03 am local time, due to the avalanche risk. The Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations says that as of Dec 5, 9 am, the roads throughout Armenia are mainly passable for traffic. The Sotk-Karvachar road and Vardenyats Pass are heavy going. Black ice has been formed on Aparan-Aragats, Saravan-Zanger and Vardenyats Pass.
