ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan has announced his intention to join the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
At the Government's session, Karapetyan said the key factor that encouraged him to take such a decision is the invitation of RPA Head and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. In addition, Karapetyan thinks each government should have a political basis. "Many people can ask me why I have chosen the RPA instead of creating a new political party. I would reply that amid the tense situation in Artsakh, creation of a new political party is inexpedient and can destabilize the situation," he said, adding that the RPA can become the best basis for the government on its path to implementation of programs.
"No one has forced us to join the RPA. It is a conscious decision. The RPA has decided to conduct reforms and has a big potential for that," he said.
To note, on October 27 ArmInfo reported, citing its own sources that Karen Karapetyan and the non-partisan ministers of the new government will join the RPA by late November. According to the same sources, Karapetyan will also become the RPA Deputy Chairman and a member of the RPA Executive Body. He may also head the RPA Council (now this post is held by RPA Chairman, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan).
