ArmInfo. The establishment of joint military alignment between Armenia and Russia is the continuation of existing close alliance between Armenia and Russia,
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said during his interview to Dmitri Kiselev, the Director General of Rossiya Segodnya media. "To be exact, this is not something new, this is a continuation of our alliance relations already existing. A Joint military group was set yet in 1990. We have commanders, have resources and facilities. We will attentively monitor every modification made on the basis of Russian President Order," Sargsyan mentioned.
Armenian leader stated also that trade and economic relations between two countries have been existing always, but not always Armenia and Russia were allies, they had no common industrial area. To note, on November 14 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a Resolution approving the proposal of Medvedev's Government on setting Russian-Armenian military forces alignment in the Caucasus sector of joint security area.
According to Draft Statutes on Joint Military Alignment, it's commander will be assigned by the Supreme Commander of Armenia within the concordance with the Supreme Commander of Russia. Regularly the group will be under the command of Armenia's General Military Staff, and in combat conditions - under the command of Southern Military District Head. Both sides will provide material, technical and financial items of their parts independently.
"This agreement is not aimed against any third countries," the preamble of the Draft states. This Agreement is planned to be signed for five years with an extension by default, if no one of Parties expresses a intention to cancel.
