ArmInfo. Azerbaijan's territorial integrity is not a subject for discussions, we will never agree on provision of independence to Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev thinks.
"But reasonable compromise is possible: ensuring security of Karabakh people, self-governance, implementation of various investment projects by Azerbaijan, and peaceful co-existing of the two nations in case territories beyond the boundaries of Nagorno-Karabakh autonomous republic are liberated. This is how we see the settlement of the conflict. This is in line with the proposals, on which we are currently working and which the Co-Chairs offer. But the main reason of non settlement is that Armenia for already 24 years since the Minsk Group has been established blocks any progress in the negotiation process", Aliyev stated in an interview to Russia Today.
Aliyev is sure that Azerbaijan can not make any further compromise beyond providing self-governance. He also stated that the terms and negotiation process do not depend on them, there is a format for negotiations, while Armenia hinders the negotiations all the time, proposing such conditions which are unacceptable for Azerbaijan.
At the same time he characterized the recent statement made by US Secretary of State John Kerry on Karabakh as diplomatic casus, stating that it is at least conscienceless to blame Azerbaijan for non settlement of the conflict.
"Now all of a sudden the US secretary of state says the conflict's settlement is unlikely and that this is far more difficult to settle than the Israel-Palestine conflict is," added the president. "What a message is this? And who does he refer to? Is it a message to Armenia that they should prolong the problem like the Israel- Palestine conflict? This is a statement that is absolutely unacceptable. Kerry's statement reveals why Karabakh conflict remains unsettled, noted Ilham Aliyev. "They are telling us that the conflict must be resolved by peaceful means. We are offering to solve it and wait, and hear such statements instead of making pressure on aggressor", Aliyev said.
