ArmInfo.Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has applied to international human rights organizations to ensure the security of Armenians living in Syria and to provide support to them.
The Ombudsman's press office has told ArmInfo that Tatoyan applied to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, European Ombudsman Institute, ICRC, etc.
The Ombudsman of Armenia expressed his concern over numerous deaths caused by the recent bomb attacks. Tatoyan requested the specified structures to provide efficient assistance within the scope of their opportunities.
According to the Diaspora Ministry of Armenia, over the past 5 years, the Armenian community in Armenia shrank from 120,000 to 20,000 people. 20,000 moved to Armenia, of which 13,000 were naturalized. According to the Aleppo Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, around 10 thousand Armenians still remain in the city. Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan said on October 13 that over 20 Syrian Armenians would be transported to Armenia on October 17. He noted that following the latest escalation in Syria, 3 families have arrived in Armenia. They have been provided with all essentials. At the same time, he refuted Aleppo NGO's statement that the organization has received 600 applications requesting Aleppo NGO to help their relatives in Syria to move to Armenia.
