ArmInfo. Ambassador Arman Navasaryan has addressed the Syria issue in a news conference in Yerevan today, saying the loss of the Armenian community in Syria will cause a serious damage to the Armenian Diaspora.
In his words, the Armenian community in Syria is in an extremely dangerous situation, as Aleppo is under permanent bombardment. "Of course, the Armenian of Aleppo can leave the city, but their lives will be still in danger, as the way out of the city is not safe," the ambassador said.
According to the Diaspora Ministry of Armenia, within 5 years, the Armenian community in Armenia reduced from 120,000 to 20,000 people. Another 20,000 were sheltered in Armenia, of which 13,000 were naturalized. According to Aleppo Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church, around 10 thousand Armenians still remain in the city. Two dozens of Syrian Armenians will be transported to Armenia on October 17, Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan stated on October 13. To note, earlier "Aleppo" Compatriotic Charitable Organization NGO has officially applied to philanthropists of Armenia and Diaspora to help the Syrian Armenians leave Syria in the light of the new wave of escalation. The organization states that due to the critical situation in Aleppo, it has received more than 600 applications from the Armenians living in Aleppo, who have found themselves in a hopeless situation. The organization states that due to the program 250 Syrian Armenians have already been transported to Armenia, while another 100 will arrive by November.
