ArmInfo. The results of parliamentary diplomacy cannot be felt in one day, however, the results of our work over the past two years are very tangible. This was stated during a press conference by head of the "My Step" faction, MP Lilit Makunts.
The head of the "My Step" faction stated that during their business trips, the MPs managed to correctly represent the interests of Armenia and establish close contacts with the country's partners at various international parliamentary platforms. "As a result of these contacts, we were able to promptly notify our colleagues about the aggression of Azerbaijan," she said.
Makunts also touched upon the resolution put into circulation by the legal commission of the US House of Representatives, which concerns the situation of internally displaced persons in Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Azerbaijan.
"This is a rather complicated resolution, it was perceived by some circles as anti-Russian, however, it contains accents that also affect the interests of Armenia. In connection with this resolution, representatives of Hay Dat, the Armenian Congress, as well as the Armenian Embassy in the United States are doing a lot. It is necessary to see what further steps in connection with this resolution will be in the Senate>, the MP stressed.
Makunts also stated that she is the head of the Armenia-US parliamentary friendship group, but itspowers are rather limited and it cannot take any action in connection with this issue. <However, we are in constant contact with the congressmen, we communicate via video link. We presented our colleagues with our position on this issue and discussed the possibility of removing some formulations from the resolution," Makunts stressed.
To note, earlier the Committee on Judicial Issues of the House of Representatives of the US Congress included in the agenda an amendment by Congressmen Steve Shabot and Stephen Cohen. The amendment deals with "refugees from the occupied territories of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Azerbaijan".
