ArmInfo. Statements by US President Donald Trump on April 24 are based on the "subjective narrative" of Armenians trying to turn him into dogma. So in the Foreign Ministry Turkey responded to a statement by US President Donald Trump about the events of 1915 in the Ottoman State, in which he used the Armenian term "Metz Yeghern".
"The allegations of the American leader are designed to achieve domestic political goals. We reject the claims made in this statement. Trump's statement ignored the suffering of more than 500,000 Muslims killed during the mentioned period by the Armenians," the Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized. At the same time, Ankara called on the head of the White House to abandon such an approach, which is unfair and dishonest.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also recalled that Turkey's proposal to create a joint historical commission to study the events of 1915 is still in force.
"We believe that the truth will be revealed if this Commission is created. Radically-minded Armenians seek to remove this initiative from the agenda, thus trying to erase from the history the responsibility of their predecessors for the events of 1915. The US administration should see this reality and act accordingly ", the Turkish Foreign Ministry cynically emphasized, adding in conclusion that they honor the memory of all Muslims, Christians and Jews who died during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
It should be noted that on the eve of the US President Donald Trump made a traditional appeal on the occasion of April 24, in which he once again avoided using the term Genocide, again preferring to use the Armenian expression "Metz Jern". "Today, we honor the memory of the victims of Metz Jager, one of the largest massacres of the 20th century," Trump said in a statement.
