Freight activity at the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC has been showing downward trend since the beginning of the year, Sergey Valko, General Manager at SCR said during a conference call on Nov 9, the Company's press-office said. Sergey Valko said the company shows improvement of a range of qualitative indicators, including reduction of the train delay by 134 hours or 40%. "Our goal is to ensure a 100% scheduled running," Valko said.
He dwelled upon security issues saying that in Jan-Oct 2015, 190 restrictive measures were taken on the railroad versus 362 for the same period of 2014. Among the tasks for Nov-Dec, Valko outlined increase in the freight activity, minimization of expenses and increased of incomes, as well as shifting to economy regime. He said that many railway companies have faced problems with low level of freight activity. "We are taking measures to maintain the company's staff. The situation is complicate but not critical. We had overcome such problems also before," Sergey Valko said.
CJSC "South Caucasian Railway" is a 100% subsidiary of JSC "Russian Railways" and provides concession management of Armenian railroads. CJSC "Armenian Railways" was referred to the concession management to the company "SCR" according to the Concession Agreement signed on February 13, 2008. The term of the concession management is 30 years with possible extension for another 10 years.
