Baku. On May 27 the
Serious Crimes Court, chaired by Ahmed Guliyev sentenced a 31-year-old Abdul Abilov, an activist in Facebook . He was convicted of drug
possession and sentenced to five and a half years of imprisonment.
Abilov was arrested on
November 22 in Yasamal district near his house by the employees of the Office
for Combating Organized Crime. In his pocket allegedly were found 2,679
grams of heroin, and 4,677 gram of
heroin were allegedly found at his home.
At trial Abilov said that the drugs were planted by police, and he is
being persecuted for criticizing the government in social networks. In
particular, he created and led a page called:
"Stop sycophants." Abilov was recognized by defenders as a political prisoner.
