The German Government is considering Armenia's invitation to attend the Apr 24 commemorations of the 100th year of the Armenian Genocide.
According to Haberler, in reply to an inquiry by the Left Party, the Germany Government has said that it is considering the possibility of attending the commemorations of the 100th year of the Armenian Genocide.
The German authorities term the Genocide as massacres and deportation but welcome the attempts to shed light on these events. They believe that it is for Armenia and Turkey to reveal historical truth here. On the other hand, they respect the brave steps to normalize Armenian- Turkish relations.
Meanwhile, during a press-conference on Friday German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morel evaded the question if Germany is going to attend the commemorations of the 100th year of the Armenian Genocide. He said that each country has a right to decide what event to attend. He meant the fact that on Apr 24 2015, when Armenia will be commemorating the 100th year of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey will be celebrating the 100th year of its victory in the Battle of Gallipoli. Morel said that here it is important to know the purpose of the invitation – that is, if it was good or bad.
Earlier the German Bundestag adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian massacres in the Ottoman Empire in early XX.
