The situation in the Crimea and the situation we have around Nagorno Karabakh have nothing in common, said Alexander Iskandaryan, Head of the Caucasus Institute, commenting reporters on the parallels often drawn between possible independence of the Crimea and international recognition of the NKR.
"There are nearly 50 unrecognized or partially recognized unions in the world and there is an individual and subjective approach to every situation. There is no universal solution to all those territorial, ethnic and political disputes. Solution to every such problem relies on the political approach applied by the countries within their interests," the political expert said.
Director of the Accord Research Center, ex-head of the National Security Service of Armenia, David Shakhnazaryan, in turn, called it senseless drawing any parallels.
"Armenia will never recognize, for instance, the Northern Cyprus. Neither we can recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for the known reasons. All the countries have their own approaches to every case. Consequently, even talks on recognition of Nagorno Karabakh in case if the Crimea gets independence are absolutely groundless," the analyst said.
