The Armenian nation witnesses the destruction of its cultural heritage even in the 21st century, Edward Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of Armenian National Assembly, said during the closing ceremony of the Armenian Culture Week in Japan.
He spoke of the destruction of the ancient Armenian cemetery in Nakhchivan that had been once inhabited by the Armenians. Sharmazanov called this "nothing else but cultural genocide". He has added that such facts disclose Azerbaijan's real face.
The deputy speaker has said that Armenian monuments are still being destroyed in Azerbaijan, Turkey and by Islamic State. "Humanity should join efforts to prevent such cases in the future and preserve the historic heritage of the world", summed up Sharmazanov.
To note, IS has destroyed ancient monuments in Iraq and Syria.
