Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev who travelled to Armenia on April 7 held a joint press briefing with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan saying the practical implementation of Armenian NPP Life Extension project has been launched.
"It is a unique project. Such projects often take longer period, but we hope to implement it within 5 years in Armenia," the Russian prime minister said.
The documents to the working visit of the Russian prime minister to Yerevan say that Moscow still weighs participation in the construction of a new power unit of the Armenian NPP. In February 2010, an Armenian-Russian JV Metsamorenergoatom CJSC was set up on a parity basis as the construction project owner. On August 20 2010, an intergovernmental agreement of cooperation in the construction of new power units of the nuclear power plant in Armenia was signed.
