Professional Commission on Constitutional Reform is likely to refuse from the institution of electors who will be electing the president in Armenia, Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission, said at the parliamentary hearings on the Constitutional Reform, on Sept 4.
"After long discussions, we have arrived at a conclusion that the parliament should elect the president from the presidential nominees," he said. In response to the question of Prosperous Armenia Party leader Naira Zohrabyan as to whether the Commission will accept the recommendation of the Venice Commission and include the provision about the two rounds of parliamentary elections into the Election Code, Poghosyan said the Venice Commission will submit a second assessment of the draft and some changes may be made to it. However, he hinted that the provision 89 will be left unchanged.
