The Investigate Committee of Armenia has filed charges against Artsakh war hero and initiator of New Armenia movement Zhirayr Sefilyan under Article 235.2 of the Armenian Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, sale, keeping, transportation of firearms, ammunition, cartridges, and explosives).
The Investigative Committee says that the pre-trial investigation has revealed enough evidence that Sefilyan organized illegal acquisition, transportation and storage of weapons and ammunition in various places. "In particular, Sefilyan had direct contacts with the other defendants in the case, whom he instructed to transport and keep weapons, as well as to be prepared to use the weapons when the relevant order is given," the statement says. The Committee stresses that Sefilyan refused to give any testimony. "He also refused to give testimony during the face-to-face confrontation and to ask questions to the persons who testified against him," the statement says. The Committee notes that the computer, documents and other things have been confiscated from Sefilyan's flat and office.
The Investigative Committee has requested the court to choose arrest as a measure of restraint against Sefilyan. The Committee says that under the case 9 people, including Sefilyan, have been detained as defendants and 1 has been put on the wanted list.
To note, Article 235.2 of the Armenian Criminal Code implies imprisonment for 2-6 years.
