The Armenian population has reconsidered the list of grocery expenses conditioned by the price hikes and the crisis fall in consumer demand. By the official data, people are saving money on meat, sugar and oil. Instead people buy more bread, rice, beans, and potatoes. People are stinting themselves in fruit and vegetables.
According to the statistics, the consumer basket in Armenia has become more e4xpensive by 16.1% over the past 2 years. In 2013-2014 the price increased from 29400 AMD up to 32728 AMD totaling 34123 AMD by Apr 1, 2015. In 2013-2014 the basket of goods price changed from 52039 AMD up to 57928 AMD and totaled 60397 AMD in Q1 2015.
Gurgen Matevosyan, the head of Price Statistics and International Comparisons Department, has told ArmInfo journalist that the consumer share in the basket of goods totals 56.5%. Since Jan 2015 the minimum wages have been increased by 5000 AMD up to 55.000 AMD (115 USD) in Armenia. The statistics remains silent on the real household disposable income.
