Armenia's stance on the Karabakh problem is similar to the stance of Russia, France and the United States. The same cannot be said about Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at today's press conference in Yerevan when commenting on the Azeri media outlets' misinformation about German Chancellor Angela Merkel's statements on Nagorno- Karabakh.
This is not the first case that the Azeri media outlets distort the reality and present the events the way they want to see, Nalbandian said.
To note, following the meeting of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Azeri media outlets reported that Merkel allegedly said Russia is to blame for the frequent ceasefire violation cases on the Line of Contact of the Azeri and Nagorno-Karabakh troops. In addition, on behalf of Merkel, the Azeri media "reported" that Germany seeks to replace France in the OSCE Minsk Group.
"Germany wants to be of help to the settlement of that conflict. We also talked about the possibility of the European Union taking another initiative. I believe Azerbaijan will talk to the European Commission about that. We are a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is chaired by France, Russia and the United States of America, and we support a resolution through negotiations. We see that Aliyev has met with his Armenian counterpart several times and has expressed willingness for negotiations. This conflict can only be solved peacefully. We are concerned about the ceasefire violations and will obviously keep them in our focus. I must take precaution and say that Russian plays a decisive role. Perhaps Russia and Armenia think the same way. So, you can come to the conclusion that we're not applying different standards," said Merkel.
