The general jurisdiction court of Kentron and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan has sentenced Hayk Kyureghyan to 9 years in jail.
Hayk Kyureghyan was charged with hooliganism with use of weapons and infliction of harm to health, which implied 4-7 years in jail. Afterwards Kyureghyan faced the second charge as he used violence against the police, which implied 5-10 years in jail. The prosecutor demanded 14-year imprisonment for Kyureghyan.
To recall, on the first day of the judicial proceedings against Tseghakron Party leader Shant Harutyunyan and his teammates in June 2014, Kyureghyan fired several shots at the police from a pneumatic gun near the court building. He announced that Shant Harutyunyan was persecuted for his political views, therefore, he was trying to hinder the court session.
