The Cut by German- Turkish film director Fatih Akin has been screened in France.
The movie is based on the Armenian Genocide. It stars Arsinee Khanjian and Simon Abkarian and was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival in 2014.
When earlier asked by Hurriyet Daily News if the movie was an apology, Akin said that he did feel responsibility. "I wasn't born then and neither was my father. But I belong to this society and that's what I feel responsibility for. As for the apology, a film doesn't apologize. You go there and you apologize. That's different..." he said.
In 2004 Akin was awarded Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival for Head- on and in 2007 Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival for the Edge of Heaven.
