"Turkey stabbed us in the back, which is a coward step. The Turkish people are not responsible for what their political leadership did. For such a heavy crime, the political leadership of Turkey will regret," Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma said at a meeting with Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov on sidelines of the CSTO PA plenary meeting in Saint Petersburg.
The Armenian vice speaker, in turn, expressed concern over downing of the Russian Su-24 bomber aircraft by Turkey's air force. "Shooting down an aircraft that fights against terrorism means to support terrorists.
Last year, by the order of the criminal regime of Azerbaijan - the little brother of Turkey - an Armenian helicopter was shot down, and the political leadership of Turkey got an impression that such heavy crimes can go unpunished. As you know, the world is changing, new political approaches are created, new situations emerge, and Armenia has proved that it is Russia's ally and the Russian people is a fraternal people for us. As for Turkey, it has not changed over the last 100 years," he said.
As for the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial that has been put on agenda of the State Duma, Sharmazanov hailed the given initiative saying the improper assessment of the past crimes borns new ones, including the terror attacks that are happening now.
In this light, Naryshkin said, the crimes of the past should be condemned properly to avoid their repetition in future. He thanked Armenia for the support to Russia at international platforms and for the suggestion to hold the meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Yerevan in 2016.
