Tigran Urikhanyan has been elected as the leader of the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party of Armenia. The founding congress of the political party was held today, on May 16.
In his speech, Urikhanyan said the Alliance Party was founded on the public demand, after the union of the opposition forces split up earlier this year, but problems in the country remain. He pointed at the 40% poverty, unemployment, economic decline, and migration. Alliance looks to bring a new generation of politicians and strengthen the opposition, Urikhanyan said.
Armen Martirosyan, deputy head of the Heritage opposition party, in turn, told reporters the new political party is keen to carry out system reforms. He said there are no obstacles to cooperation of the parties on different issues and problems the country faces with every coming day.
Artsvik Minasyan, a member of ARFD Party, is sure Alliance Party will achieve a success if it puts the people's interests above its personal ones. "ARFD and Alliance may find issues to cooperate, everything depends on the new political party.
It is noteworthy that Martun Grigoryan, Aragats Akhoyan, and Bazmaser Arakelyan who left the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), but still remain members of the PAP parliamentary faction were present at the congress.
