Having no opportunity to hinder the export of Iranian energy resources to Europe, Russia will have to take part in that project, Vardan Voskanyan, expert in Iranian studies, said at a press conference in Yerevan on January 19.
"One way or another, the Iranian energy resources and gas will first of all go to Europe, no matter whether the route will pass through Armenia or not. I think Moscow will do everything possible to participate in the project on Iranian gas transportation to Europe," he said.
In this light, the expert thinks that Armenia, which is a strategic ally of Russia and has allied relations with Iran and Georgia, is an excellent partner for participating in the new transit project of regional importance.
"I think it is high time Yerevan voiced its own desires with due regard for the opportunities, of course. It is time to finally switch from defense to offense in the foreign policy. It is necessary to quit the colonial psychology. It is necessary to estimate not only the risks but also the opportunities," the expert said.
