Tbilisi. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the State of Israel Yair Shamir has arrived in Georgia on the two day official visit ( June 23-24).
In the framework of the visit, Shamir and his Georgian counterpart Shalva Pipia will sign the governmental agreement on cooperation in the sphere of agriculture.
Besides, the Israeli-Georgian business forum will be held with participation of members of the Israeli official delegation, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, the Investment Agency of Georgia, the Commercial-Industrial Chamber of Georgia, the C o-Financing Fund as well as the Georgian and Israeli business sector.
Shamir's meetings with Prime Minister of Georgia and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Elguja Khokrishvili have been scheduled. The Israeli Minister of Agriculture will leave for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan after the visit to Georgia.
During the visit to these three countries concrete ways of strengthening of cooperation in the agrarian sphere, first of all in the sphere of imposition of innovative technologies, developed by Israeli scientists, will be discussed. Israeli is known in the world as start up nation. As for Israeli agriculture, it is famous as a branch of high tech.
Israeli agrarians cooperate actively with their counterparts from Georgia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, but we are sure that the existing business contacts are only the starting point, on the base of which we should develop and deepen diversified cooperation, not only in the sphere of agriculture, but also in other fields. A packet of agreements on cooperation between our states will be signed during the visit", Shamir stated.
Yair Shamir served in Israeli Air Forces as a pilot and a commander during 25 years and retired with the rank of the Colonel. He graduated from the "Technion" in 1974 with a degree in electrical engineering. Yair Shamir has managed and headed dozens of hi-tech companies and venture capital funds. Elected to the Knesset on January 2013; since March 2013 serves as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
