It is so far very hard to say if the wave of Islamic terrorism that hit Europe is a long-term or short-term phenomenon. It is not clear if Europe is able to overcome it on its own, Alexander Rahr, a German political analyst told ArmInfo in an online interview organized by the Region Research Center.
At the same time, commenting on the deeper reasons behind the "terrorism raging" in Europe, the political analyst said what is going on now is the start of a large-scale conflict of the West and Eurasia against Islamic terrorism that took roots in Africa and Middle East.
According to Rahr, NATO failed to eradicate Islamic terrorists in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and in Libya. He believes that if ISIL and other terrorist organizations take deeper roots there and the West continues to fight them there, they will inevitably shift the war not only to the Southern Europe, but also to France and Germany. Alexander Rahr calls this a conflict of the worldview that may spark a conflict of civilizations.
