Tbilisi. Bus and minivan drivers, as well as ambulance
drivers, will hold a protest rally in Tbilisi and some other cities throughout
Georgia, on Tuesday, July 22, in connection with the driver's death as a result
of scuffle with a passenger - Georgian Trade Unions Confederation reports.
The municipal transport drivers will stop
working for a minute at 2 p.m., local time and will honk the horns in a token
of protest.
"At 2 p.m., all municipal transport
drivers throughout the country will hold a minute protest rally. Drivers from Rustavi, Gardabani, Gori,
Kutaisi and Poti are also expected to join the rally. There will be black
ribbons on each vehicle," the Trade Unions Confederation said.
On July 17, a scuffle between a passenger
and a driver of the bus #19 in the suburb Ponichala resulted in the death of
the driver. There was a verbal exchange between the passenger and the driver
inside the bus, which continued until the very last stop, where they got into a
physical scuffle.
According to witnesses, the driver passed
out and fell down. When the ambulance came, he was already dead. The passenger
ran away.
The law-enforcers arrested some Ade O.
(DoB 1988). Initially, the criminal proceedings were instituted pursuant to
Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia - incitement to suicide. However,
later it was reclassified into reckless homicide. The investigation is still
underway under part 2, Article 117 - premeditated infliction of serious damage
to health, resulting in human death. According to the media reports, the
arrestee was released on bail for the period of investigation.
