United States will not launch large-scale intervention to stop extermination of the national minorities in Iraq, a political analyst at the St. Petersburg Center for Middle East Studies told ArmInfo.
According to the political pundit, the United States will not step into the same river twice and will not deploy troops in Iraq. After all, Barack Obama became the president also for criticizing the military campaign in Iraq.
Saddam Hussein's overthrow and deployment of the U.S. troops in Iraq did not bring peace to the once stable country that has now lost the ability to ensure even its domestic stability. "Washington needs the ongoing chaos in the Middle East. Tension between Sunnis and Shia will prevent establishment of an independent, stable state able to compete with the United States in the region or its ally Israel. Such kind of conflicts is generally in favor of the USA. That country may make some aviation attacks on the positions of the militants, but no more," Sotnichenko said.
He said that in Iraq there are actually three power centers: Shia that are so far in power, Kurds that seek to establish their own state, consequently, to collapse Iraq, and, finally, Sunnis that suffered serious discrimination under government of Shia for their support to Saddam Hussein. That is why Sunnis have actually supported the Islamic States of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
The U.S., in turn, seeks to spoil the relations of the Iraqi Shia and Iranians that is why the United States asked for Nouri al Maliki to give up his premiership. The situation of Kurds is better, as they have enough oil reserves and other favorable conditions to establish a Kurdish state. Nevertheless, what they cannot enjoy is the international recognition. Turkey is categorically against establishment of independent Kurdistan for the known reasons. Iran and the United States do not support the idea not to irritate Turkey, Sotnichenko said.
