The talks between the armed group "Daredevils of Sasoun" and the authorities of Armenia were resumed a couple of days ago and the mediator is again Major General Vitaly Balasanyan, the Karabakh war Hero, according to the Yerevan-based Zhoghovurd Daily.
"It is an attempt to persuade the members of the group to surrender to prevent clashes and launch peaceful talks without arms. On the other hand, the authorities must provide guarantees that the members of the armed group will not face severe punishments. The standoff in Yerevan entered day 13," the paper writes.
The paper recalls that there is no contact with the group members for several days already since there is no communication in the area of the seized building of the police regiment. Balasanyan has once moderated the talks between the group and the authorities together with Head of the Security Service of Armenia Georgy Kutoyan and the group let free the police officers it took hostage earlier.
The armed loyalists of jailed oppositionist Jirayr Sefilyan seized the Police Patrol Service Regiment on July 17 demanding the president's resignation and release of Sefilyan.
