Starting 1 August, the electric power tariff for the population of Armenia rose 10%.
On 1 June the Public Services Regulatory Commission took a decision to increase the electricity tariff for the Armenian population by 10% starting from 1 August 2014. In accordance with the consumer watchdog's decision, the daytime tariff for the population grew to 41.85 AMD per 1 KW/h versus the current 38 AMD (up 10.1%) and the night- time tariff - to 31.85 AMD versus the current 28 AMD (up 13.7%).
For commercial consumers using 35 kV and higher electricity the daytime and nighttime tariffs rose from 29 drams and 25 drams to 32.85 dra,s and 28.85 drams, respectively. For the consumers using 6 (10) kV electricity the tariffs grew from 35 and 25 drams to 38.85 and 28.85 drams, respectively.
According to specialists, the tariffs were increased because of the 20.3 bln drams financial deficit at energy companies.
