Calculations and the decision of the utility regulator to raise the electricity rate in Armenia are grounded, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia told reporters, Wednesday.
"Raising tariffs is not a pleasant process. I am not happy with the price hike, indeed. However, there are problems to settle, I think, all the calculations of the Public Services Regulatory Committee (PSRC) are grounded. A rise of the tariff is inevitable today," the minister said. He explained that the energy security of the country and the sustainable operation of the energy system depend on it.
To recall, the president of Armenia charged the prime minister to try to soften the consequences of the electric power tariff for 105,000 vulnerable families.
To recall, on 1 June the Public Services Regulatory Commission took a decision to increase the electricity tariff for the Armenian population by 10% starting from 1 August 2014. In accordance with the Regulator's decision, the day-time tariff for the population will grow to 41.85 AMD per 1 KW/h versus the current 38 AMD (up 10.1%) and the night- time tariff will rise to 31.85 AMD versus the current 28 AMD (up 13.7%).
