ArmInfo.A group of servicemen and a convoy of the Nagorno-Karabakh peacekeeping contingent left for temporary accommodation centers in Goris and Sisian to organize their closure. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan stated.
He recalled that for the stationing and deployment of peacekeeping activities in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian peacekeeping forces were allocated temporary deployment sites in Goris and Sisian by the Armenian government.
"The area was chosen, among other things, to ensure the normal functioning of the Lachin corridor. Since the Russian peacekeeping contingent is leaving Nagorno-Karabakh, for obvious reasons it cannot remain in the Republic of Armenia. A group of servicemen and a convoy of the Nagorno- Karabakh peacekeeping contingent left for temporary accommodation centers in Goris and Sisian to organize their closure," he noted in a conversation with Armenpress.
Notably, a part of the Russian peacekeeping contingent column withdrew part of its equipment from Artsakh to Armenia yesterday. The Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed in Artsakh following a trilateral declaration signed on November 9, 2020 between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. In accordance with the agreements, 1,960 military personnel with small arms, 90 armored personnel carriers and 380 units of automobile and special equipment were sent there. It was planned to deploy peacekeepers in the region for five years - until 2025. After last year's September aggression by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, against the backdrop of the inaction of the entire international community, and the mass exodus of Artsakhis, the need for peacekeepers generally disappeared.
The Kremlin has already confirmed the fact that the process of withdrawing RPC forces from occupied Artsakh has begun. And Baku reported that this decision was made at the level of the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan.
