ArmInfo. Our position has not changed - we expect that the CSTO will give a political assessment of the fact that the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia are occupied, in particular in September 2022. Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan stated during a briefing on April 4. He noted that Armenia's demands are known, since this has been stated many times.
"It is clear to all of us what the sovereign territory of Armenia is. And, in fact, in this regard, the statement of the CSTO Secretariat is already controversial in terms of whether the CSTO Secretariat is authorized to make statements on behalf of all member countries of the Organization?> asked the deputy minister.
At the same time, referring to yesterday's statement by the Russian Embassy that Armenia and Russia need to return to dialogue, he emphasized the importance of forming an environment for dialogue on various topics. "And the statements of certain representatives of the Russian Federation and the Russian Foreign Ministry in no way contribute to the formation of such an environment," Kostanyan emphasized. He noted that Armenia voiced the problems that it sees on the agenda of relations between Armenia and Russia. "I think that we can expect that our ally, de jure, will react, and not only in words, but also in actions, and will not take steps or make statements that harm the vital interests, as they claim, of their ally," he noted.
The Deputy Minister expects that following the results of tomorrow's meeting in Brussels, European partners will provide assistance to the country in the context of increasing the stability of the Armenian economy, solving social and humanitarian problems, and the housing issue of our compatriots from Artsakh. To the question of whether Armenia was asked to withdraw from the CSTO and revise its relations with the EAEU in exchange for support, Kostanyan stated that there are no such official demands on Armenia.
Yesterday the Russian Embassy in Armenia published a statement claiming that Russia has always attached special importance to strengthening friendly ties with Armenia as an ally and an important partner. "A lot has changed over the past decades. Both the countries themselves and the world in which we live have changed. Unfortunately, there are contradictions and mutual demands in our dialogue. But the basis of bilateral relations remains the same. Close allied ties between Russia and Armenia, interaction in all areas - this is what meets the fundamental, true interests of both Russians and Armenians. We are confident that correcting the accumulated imbalances and returning to "allied normality" as a result of direct dialogue between Moscow and Yerevan is not only possible, but is also the only reasonable decicion," the document says.
