ArmInfo. The Buenos Aires Legislature Palace hosted an event on the occasion of Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan's visit to Argentina. Mat¡as Lopez, First Vice-President of the Buenos Aires City Legislature, and Mat¡as Lammens, Second Vice President of the Buenos Aires City Legislature, hosted Mr Mirzoyan.
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, in their speeches the vice presidents noted the strength of relations between Armenia and Argentina, based on many years of friendship between the two peoples.
The event was attended by members of the Legislative Assembly, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and city authorities, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Argentina, the Armenian and other communities.
During the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia was awarded the title "Guest of Honor of Buenos Aires", and the presentation of the book "Armenian Buenos Aires" took place.
Mirzoyan noted in his speech that Argentina and Armenia have always had friendly relations, which were based on many years of friendship between the two peoples.
"For my country, Argentina is an important partner in South America. I would like to note a very characteristic fact. The first Armenian embassy in South America was opened in Buenos Aires.
Everyone in Armenia remembers well that Argentina opened its doors to the Armenian people, Armenian children who fled from the Ottoman Empire and sought salvation in different parts of the world. Argentina gave shelter to these people and then became their home.
Of course, this is not the only episode when Armenia and the Armenian people felt the support of Argentina. Unfortunately, over the past 3-4 years and until today, our country has been going through difficult trials. And again we were faced with the fact that as a result of the use of force, some Armenians, more than 100 thousand people, were forced to leave their historical homeland and find refuge in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. And during this time we again heard very loud voices of support from Argentina, including from the Buenos Aires parliament,"
