ArmInfo. Armenia is not only interested, but also ready to become part of new international logistics and transit routes. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with the Turkish TV channel TRT World commenting on the progress of the implementation of the Armenian-Turkish agreements.
According to the minister, in order to constructively expand the discussion on this topic, obtain tangible results, as well as better represent Yerevan's intentions and readiness, the "Crossroads of Peace" project was developed, which, if implemented, will be economically beneficial to all countries in the region and beyond, and not only economically, but also politically.
"If implemented, it could be an important factor in establishing peace in the region, as trade and interconnections bring with them some stability and peace. This is our intention," he said.
As the head of the Foreign Ministry pointed out, the idea is that goods and people from Azerbaijan can cross the border of the Republic of Armenia and enter the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and the same should apply to citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
"There are four important conditions that will allow the process to be carried out correctly. Infrastructures that have been blockaded for several decades must be unblocked under the sovereignty of the countries through which territory they pass, operating under the national jurisdiction of the parties, as well as on the principles of equality and reciprocity. These principles are quite natural, everyone in the world will agree with this, and we hear from Azerbaijan that they respect these principles, they have no intention of violating the sovereignty of Armenia, but at the same time they propose that the forces of some third party should be deployed, for example, along railway that will pass through Armenia. They also expect that Azerbaijani citizens will pass through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, bypassing border inspection and customs control procedures. We believe that the Republic of Armenia can ensure the safety of passengers passing through its territory, we can facilitate procedures, modern, innovative technologies can be useful in this matter, but no one can enter or leave our country without appropriate registration," the Minister concluded.
