ArmInfo. The weakness of Armenia encourages Azerbaijan to resort to new armed provocations, defense and security expert David Harutyunov told ArmInfo, commenting on the military clash that took place on February 13 near the village of Nerkin Hand in the Syunik region of Armenia, as a result of which four Armenian servicemen were killed and another was injured.
According to the expert, as long as Azerbaijan feels that some political dividends can be obtained through force, armed provocations on the borders of Armenia will not stop. Moreover, Baku will periodically use this pressure tool. "In this particular case, it is still difficult to draw conclusions about whether we are talking about some local actions or the beginning of a new cycle of pressure, but the likelihood of a new cycle is very high, especially in the context of the early presidential elections that have ended in Azerbaijan, after which Baku will try to get new dividends during the expected negotiations on the peace process," the expert believes.
He added that local military operations do not always reflect the real situation with the state of affairs in the RA armed forces, but the fact that Armenia is inferior in equipment to Azerbaijan in a number of areas is an obvious fact and is not a debatable issue. "Yes, now the country's armed forces have begun to receive military equipment from a number of countries around the world, but these volumes are still extremely insufficient. Azerbaijan is making attempts to nullify these actions of Yerevan," David Arutyunov emphasized.
On February 13, at dawn, the Azerbaijani armed forces fired at the positions of the Armenian forces, as a result of which 4 servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were killed and another was injured.
