Thus, according to a report from the Prosecutor General's Office, after a trial that lasted about two years, by the decision of the Yerevan Criminal Court of First Instance dated January 9, 2024, the prosecutor's office's request was partially satisfied (the prosecutor demanded 7 years in prison) and the judge of the court of general jurisdiction of the Gegharkunik region (powers suspended ) was found guilty of committing fraud on an especially large scale and sentenced to 4 years in prison.
The judge was accused of committing a crime, which he committed while holding the position of judge of the court of general jurisdiction of Gegharkunik region. In particular, through fraud and abuse of trust, he embezzled funds in the amount of $20,000 (he promised that, based on newly discovered circumstances, he would be able to obtain a court decision in favor of the person who paid the amount). At the same time, the judge was initially informed, even before receiving the money, that there were no grounds for reviewing the judicial act that had entered into legal force.
