ArmInfo. The greatest achievement in Yerevan's landscaping is the program to replace trees that are losing their viability with mature ornamental trees that are valuable in their functionality. Armen Begoyan, director of "Greening and Environmental Protection" CNCO said during a press conference on December 25.
He noted that before the start of the program, a conference with representatives of the scientific community was held, as a result of which an appropriate decision was made, since it turned out that about 40-50% of Yerevan's green fund had lost its viability or was on the verge of being lost.
In total, about 1 thousand trees were replaced during the year, which were brought mainly from Italy and the Netherlands. According to him, in terms of their functionality, new trees are more effective in cleaning the air, accumulating dust, reducing noise levels, etc. Begoyan noted that it was not seedlings that were brought from abroad, but 10-year-old mature trees, since the ecological state of the capital could not afford the luxury of waiting for the trees to begin to fulfill their basic functions.
In addition, as the head of the CNCO noted, a number of avenues and streets of the capital were replenished with trees of the same species that were already growing in these areas, in particular Baghramyan Avenue, Azatutyun, Mashtots, Isakov, Raffi, Sayat-Nova, Vazgen Sargsyan streets, etc. Together Moreover, over 25 thousand bush seedlings and half a million flowers were planted in Yerevan.
In total, at the end of the year, the green areas of Yerevan increased by 20 hectares, of which 15 hectares accounted for the Yerablur military pantheon alone.
