ArmInfo. The Russian side is taking consistent steps aimed at resolving the difficult humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the situation with Russian humanitarian aid to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"In line with the initiative put forward by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov during a trilateral meeting with the heads of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Armenia on July 25 of this year, in Moscow, in collaboration with all interested parties, a scheme for simultaneous opening of the Lachin and Agdam routes was worked out. Taking into account the significant divergence of positions and the high level of mutual distrust, this work did not progress easily. As a first step, on September 12 this year, a batch of humanitarian aid was delivered to the region through the all-Russian public organization "Russian Red Cross". About 15 tons of food, personal hygiene items and bedding were donated to residents of Nagorno-Karabakh in need of help. We expect that, taking into account the previously reached understanding, in the near future, in parallel with the Agdam route, the Lachin corridor will also be opened, then, humanitarian aid will be regularly sent to the region in both directions," she stated.
Zakharova also emphasized that Moscow hopes that in this way the humanitarian situation in Nagorno- Karabakh will be stabilized and the normal functioning of the local population will be restored. This, in turn, will create conditions for launching a dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert and resuming and rhythmic work on the implementation of the entire complex of tripartite agreements of 2020-2022 reached at the highest level on the regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
