ArmInfo.Due to the sharp increase in air temperature, an unprecedented increase in the number of fires has been registered in Armenia. This was announced on July 18 at a press conference by head of the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic, Colonel Arsen Mkrtchyan.
According to him, in the past week alone, the number of such cases increased by 34% compared to the same period last year. If last year for the period from July 11 to 17, 169 cases of fires were recorded, then this year for the same period this figure has already approached 277. At the same time, the number of fires in June-July of this year has decreased compared to the same period last year , their growth is associated only with the events of the last week. If on July 1-17 last year 525 cases of fires were recorded in the country, then for the same period of the current year - 395. Fortunately, there were no dead or injured.
In turn, head of the environmental health department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Ruben Grigoryan, noted that at temperatures above 40 degrees, the employer is obliged to provide breaks to his employees. If on a typical day, 1 hour is provided for a break, then with a heat of over 40 degrees, with the consent of the immediate supervisor, breaks should be more frequent, that is, 15 minutes for every hour of work. Work in an open area should also be limited.
