ArmInfo. Suspension of OSCE monitoring in the Karabakh conflict zone will not affect the current situation. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo, deputy director of the Institute of CIS countries, military expert Vladimir Evseev.
"I consider the key point in the statement of Andrzej Kasprzyk a point that emphasizes the maintenance of communication between his office and the authorities of the conflicting countries. Moreover, in my opinion, at this stage these communications will be more solid and reliable. At the same time, it seems to me that the suspension of monitoring will be short-term, "he stressed.
In a statement circulated on March 19 by the Permanent Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Andrzej Kasprzyk, the OSCE temporarily ceases monitoring of the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone. The reason for this decision is the closure of international borders in connection with the situation with coronavirus. Kasprzyk emphasized that he remains in touch with the relevant military authorities of the conflicting countries.
Evseev estimates the current situation as one of the cases in which the OSCE can make such decisions. Especially in a situation where difficulties with moving people arise around the world. According to him, the impact of the current situation on the activities of the OSCE in Nagornny Karabakh was quite expected and normal.
"Even if Kasprzyk hadn't stated this, it was clear that the accepted method of monitoring the situation on the spot, directly in the conflict zone, is impossible today. This is hindered by factors independent of the OSCE. In this light, temporary suspension of monitoring is a necessary measure and, as far as I I understand that the general situation and tensions in the region will not be reflected in any way, "Yevseyev summed up.
