ArmInfo. In its current form, the plan of US President Donald trump in Palestine - the so-called The "deal of the century" is unlikely to be realized. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo, former Knesset deputy, political scientist, Dr. Alexander Zinker. "In Palestine, Trump's plan was rejected immediately after its presentation.
Israelis do not like all its proposals. The deal of the century was pessimistic in many European and Asian countries. Nevertheless, in my opinion, this plan has every chance of becoming the basis for the transition from frozen negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians to constructive work. I am convinced that this must be done with the involvement of a number of countries in the Middle East who are interested in ending this conflict, "he said.
On January 28, US President Donald Trump, along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced in Washington the key provisions of the "deal of the century" - a plan for a Palestinian-Israeli peaceful settlement based on mutual recognition of the two states.
The political scientist, among many colleagues, considers the "deal of the century" as a very topical political PR step by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which is on the eve of the next parliamentary elections. The initiative to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict in the interests of the US president himself in the context of impeachment threatening him, the fight against democrats and already accepting the first outline of the presidential race.
According to Zinker, Trump's plan is by no means the first initiative designed to put an end to the Arab- Israeli conflict. Moreover, if Jews almost always agreed to the initiatives of intermediaries, the Arabs always refused. The main difference between the "deal of the century" and previous initiatives is that the compromise proposed to the parties to the conflict for the first time provides for the creation of an independent Palestinian state. We are talking about 80% of the territory of Judea and Samaria, the territory in the Western Negev and the final reconciliation between Israel and the Arab world.
The Deal of the Century sets aside four years for negotiations to resolve the conflict. Moreover, throughout this period, construction in Jewish settlements in the territories will be frozen. And refugees will have the opportunity to return to the Palestinian state after its creation. For the construction of the US state, it is planned to allocate $ 50 billion to the Palestinians.
Israel can receive from the "deal of the century" the Jordan Valley, the official recognition by the Palestinians of the Jewish state, the obligation to stop incitement and the effective fight against terror, the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem as the single and indivisible capital of Israel.
